Issue 16

This issue is mainly about money, from costs to banks, to credit cards, to store cards, to taxes.

We all have different attitudes towards money. Sometimes it is a love hate relationship: love because money can buy us what we want, hate because our wants go higher and higher and whatever we have is never enough...

Whether we love it or hate it, money is part of life and the better we manage it the more we have. So, it's good to know about it.

We are sharing our tips about money, Australian credit cads, what features they have, how to apply for them and what other options are available.

But before talking money...let's celebrate:

  • First, that Tourism Australia is bringing Oprah Winfrey and 300 of her loyal audience to visit Australia. She will broadcast her show from the Opera House, which will be known as Oprah House, during her stay. This is really big for promoting Australia and Sydney to visitors around the world.
  • Second, the 10th anniversary of Sydney Olympics 2000.
  • Remember the Great Games of the Millenium in Sydney? 10 years have passed since then. On September 15, 2010 the volunteers that helped organise everything reunited at the Olympic Park to celebrate. Click to see videos that show bits of the opening and closing ceremonies.

  • Third, the Mooncake Festival in Sydney. The festival is a big Asian celebration of Mid Autumn and harvest. September is not exactly autumn in Australia, but the celebration is on. Chinese and Vietnamese communities held the Mooncake festival in Cabramatta with dragon dances, martial art, performers and...mouthwatering mooncakes.

Now let's get serious and talk about money.

Australian Money

One of our readers asked about the cost to start a new life in Australia. While there is no easy answer we tried to group costs into accommodation, food and transport.

Credit Cards Austalia

Is it good or bad to have a credit card? It depends on how you use it. Also find some hints on how to apply.

Credit Card Australia

Australian Credit Cards Offered by Stores

Australian Tax File Number

Speaking of money, credit and finance, we get to incomes and taxes. If you are moving to Australia or are earning any money from there, get a tax file number.

Australian Tax Return

That's all for now. We'll be adding more pages about Australia, life in Sydney and tips on how to make the most of it.

Until then, all the best,
